More than thirty students who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (K.C.P.E) in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County, will have nothing to worry as their secondary school studies shall be fully catered for.
This if after the Matungu MP Mr. Justus Murunga issued them with scholarships amounting to Ksh4,378,800.
The 33 will benefit from Mr. Murunga’s scholarship program after scoring above 400 marks in the recently-released KCPE results.

The colourful event, which was held at the Matungu Sub-County Grounds in Kakamega County on Saturday 30th November, 2019, saw the number of the beneficiaries rise to 82 after the 16 students who achieved similar target in 2017 and another 33 in 2018.
“Since we introduced this scheme, our children have been posting tremendous results apparently because of the competition to win the free scholarships which is very encouraging not only to their parents and teachers but also for us, the leaders,” said Mr. Murunga while addressing the learners, parents, education officers and local leaders.
“We have allocated Sh53,400/ per year for every student to ensure that these bright students from needy families don’t lose an opportunity to acquire the best education they have worked hard for.”
Murunga also promised to continue supporting the students, work with the provincial administration who are supposed to help identify the needy students and promised to establish a modern library in the constituency.
The event was graced by the Turkana West MP Daniel Nanok who is also a former District Education Officer (D.E.O) in Butere-Mumias as the Chief-Guest and the Matungu Sub-County administrator Mrs Joyce Nafukho, the DCC and other local leaders.

The Chief Guest pledged to support the learners and asked them to work hard in school to have a bright future.
Mr. Nanok will also grace the upcoming education day in Matungu Constituency.
